Course Title: Enabling Applications for Cloud Computing, Featuring Amazon EC2

Overview: This course introduces the concept of cloud computing, presents the features and benefits of current commercial cloud computing solutions, and guides participants through creating an example infrastructure within a cloud, employing rBuilder Online and Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) in its hands-on labs.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Compare the features of cloud computing solutions, and contrast them with features of traditional network computing
- Plan transition of network resources between a traditional network model and a cloud computing model
- Describe the features of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and related Amazon Web Services
- Deploy, access, and manage individual virtual machines in Amazon EC2
- Configure a network between Amazon EC2 instances
- Configure and employ persistent storage for Amazon EC2 instance for reliable access to application data and databases
- Handle ongoing maintenance on a cloud-deployed infrastructure
- Troubleshoot and repair parts of the cloud-deployed infrastructure in ways that take advantage cloud features
Prerequisites Students must have the following to successfully complete this course:
- An Amazon account with EC2 and S3 services added and ready to use in labs (see aws.amazon.com for more information)
- Basic command line experience in one or more operating systems
- Understanding of IT infrastructure requirements and challenges
